This is my mil’s recipe and an all time favourite in our household. It is finger licking good 🙂 I make 2 versions of it. One from the fried Arbi, which I make once in a while when in a mood to indulge and this is the best for obvious reasons, while the other is shallow fried healthy version with minimal oil…this version does become a bit sticky due to the inherent nature of Arbi, but is still a good recipe

Ingredients 

1/2 kg boiled and peeled Arbi, cut lengthwise or into discs

Oil (for frying/shallow frying as well as for seasoning)

1 tsp mustard seeds

1 tsp cumin seeds

10-12 curry leaves

1/2 tsp asafoetida

1/2 tsp red chilly powder

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

1 tsp chaat masala

3-4 tbsp ketchup

Salt

Method

  1. Cut the boiled and peeled arbi into discs and deep fry or shallow fry them and set aside.
  2. In a pan, heat a spoonful of oil. Once heated, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida and curry leaves.
  3. Add chopped arbi. Add all the remaining ingredients and mix well.
  4. Serve hot with Chapatis. Can even be served as snacks during tea time.
