This is my mil’s recipe and an all time favourite in our household. It is finger licking good 🙂 I make 2 versions of it. One from the fried Arbi, which I make once in a while when in a mood to indulge and this is the best for obvious reasons, while the other is shallow fried healthy version with minimal oil…this version does become a bit sticky due to the inherent nature of Arbi, but is still a good recipe
1/2 kg boiled and peeled Arbi, cut lengthwise or into discs
Oil (for frying/shallow frying as well as for seasoning)
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
10-12 curry leaves
1/2 tsp asafoetida
1/2 tsp red chilly powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp chaat masala
3-4 tbsp ketchup
- Cut the boiled and peeled arbi into discs and deep fry or shallow fry them and set aside.
- In a pan, heat a spoonful of oil. Once heated, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida and curry leaves.
- Add chopped arbi. Add all the remaining ingredients and mix well.
- Serve hot with Chapatis. Can even be served as snacks during tea time.
